Derek Rae
The latest in our series of interviews with Scottish people who have forged heir career outside of the UK.
This episode we have a chat with broadcaster Derek Rae, originally from Aberdeen he broke into radio commentary at BBC Radio Scotland before moving to the United States in the early 90’s taking up a job with the World Cup ’94 organising committee. From there he has covered the beginnings of the MLS as well as covering South American & European football for ESPN.
In 2009 he returned to Scotland to commentate on the Scottish Premier League for ESPN UK & BT Sports. He currently can be heard on ESPN and also on FIFA video games.
We chat to Derek about his career, the decisions he’s made along the way and how he’s watched football change during his lifetime.
